It is seven years ago today since great chef Keith Floyd left this mortal earth. The heavy drinking, chain smoking TV personality died from a heart attack hours after a lunch to celebrate being given the all clear from bowel cancer. Some of us will recall that in a bizarre twist a Channel 4 documentary was shown that evening to celebrate his life, Floyd had apparently settled down to watch this when his heart attack occurred. I am glad he didn’t see it. The film wasn’t kind and seemed to ridicule a man clearly in poor health, glossing over the endless hours of wonderful television that had entertained a legion of foodie fans the world over.
Happy Birthday Keith Floyd.
Long may you be remembered for your wonderful wit and enthusiasm, you lived life to the full and inspired a generation to cook, breaking new ground with TV food shows.

Here is a piece I wrote about Floyd and his time at one of my favourite locations – Kinsale in Southern Ireland.
Enjoy this Youtube clip of the master at work behind the camera. This is one of my favourites…
Happy cooking!
